Next weekend’s tour offers a glimpse into Delta’s diverse agricultural community.

The Delta Chamber of Commerce and Farm Fresh Events have joined forces to host the Experience Delta Farm and Culinary Tour next weekend.

On Sunday, Aug. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a select number of Delta farms, gardens, orchards and vineyards will swing open their gates to welcome the public in for a peek - and taste - of what life is like in one of the most significant agricultural communities in B.C. Some of the region's top farm-to-table chefs will be providing samples using fresh ingredients grown at each farm. Chefs from Bishop's, Terroir Kitchen, Grub on Main, Pat Quinn's, Beach Grove Café and the One20 Public House will be paired with each destination to offer bites showcasing the very best of Delta's farms and farming families.

"We are proud to use locally sourced produce," says Scott Pratico, executive chef of Pat Quinn's at Tsawwassen Springs. "It's really nice to see an event like this happening in our own backyard... and featuring products from just down the road."

Participants will visit the Tsawwassen First Nation Farm School, Earthwise Farm Garden, Wellbrook Winery, Greystone Stables, Emma Lea Farms, Didar Berry Farm, Westham Island Herb Farm and Angel Estate Winery.

"It's a thrill to match these talented and creative chefs with some of my favourite local farms," says event producer, Anne Janzen of Farm Fresh Events. "The 2016 Experience Delta Farm and Culinary Tour will engage the community through the universal language of really good food, and will help showcase and promote sustainable agriculture in an accessible way."

Visitors have the choice of opting for a self-guided tour, where they can travel the backroads and visit at their own pace, or jump on a tour bus.

Bus tickets are available for $29.95 (plus taxes) for a single ticket or $49.95 (plus taxes) for a pair of tickets. They can be purchased online at www.deltachamber.ca/events.
