There have been all sorts of banners flying over 56th Street and 12th Avenue in Tsawwassen this year, but you may have noticed the latest ones are a little bit on the “sunny” side.
The Corporation of Delta recently hung up the newest banners for Sunny Tsawwassen, a name that alludes both to the sunny nature of the weather in the community, but also to the moniker of the commercial district of the Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association (TBIA), which was integral in their design and implementation.
The ocean blue and golden yellow colours on the banners match the branding of the TBIA, while the photo of a couple sitting on a log overlooking Mount Baker is an iconic view of this beachfront community.
According to TBIA executive director Lydia Elder, the creative process began with a special board committee that worked together on ideas of how to best reflect qualities that TBIA survey data has shown Tsawwassen is known for, including sunny skies, beautiful beaches, numerous parks, quality of life and a strong sense of community.
These are elements which have been included in their design work since re-branding in 2014. Then they used a local graphic design artist, photographer and production company to create and manufacture the banners.
The TBIA has again been involved in numerous beautification projects around town this year, including a second iteration of a partnership with Delta Community Living Society’s LEAP program in which the TBIA hires young people for community beautification projects, and collaborates with businesses to plant flowers and improve landscaping.
