Delta-Richmond East MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay will present the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal Friday to 29 deserving Canadians at a special commemorative ceremony in Richmond.
The recipients are:
Mahmood Awan has served on many community committees such as Touchstone Family Association and the Muslim Canadian Federation to name a few. He is known as a leader in the community with respect to multiculturalism and diversity.
Kim Baird was first elected Chief of Tsawwassen First Nation in 1999. Kim played a key role in implementing British Columbia's first urban treaty in 2009. She serves on the Metro Vancouver Board, the BC Hydro Board, the Mayors' Council on Transportation, and many First Nations Societies and programs.
Alex Bovey has a deep interest in the well-being of Canada and has volunteered thousands of hours to municipal, provincial and federal community initiatives. A consummate volunteer, he has made significant contributions to British Columbia and Canada.
Malcolm Brodie has been Mayor of Richmond since 2001 and on Council since 1996. He served on the Metro Vancouver Board, the Advisory Board of the Canadian Police College, and was a Director of Translink. His civic committee services include Zero Waste, Finance, Utilities, Mayor's and Intergovernmental.
Ray Carter assisted with the building of the North Delta Public Safety Building. He has been a Member of the Delta Police Board & the Delta Police Foundation. As President of Baseball Canada, his contribution to baseball in Canada is extraordinary.
Delta Police Chief Jim Cessford has been instrumental in implementing programs to decrease crime since he became Chief Constable in 1995. He has been a member of numerous community boards and panels including the Canadian Police Research Centre, and served as the President of the BC Association of Municipal Chiefs of Police.
Michael Chiu has served his community tirelessly in the Richmond Sunset Rotary, the Richmond Information Services Society, the Richmond Community Foundation, the Richmond Chinese Community Society, Tourism Richmond, and as an Olympic Ambassador.
Charmis DeBoer is a passionate community leader and volunteer who has been instrumental in a number of Steveston community projects including the Community Society, the Salmon Festival, and the Farmers' & Artisans' Market. Life-changing challenges have led to her involvement with initiatives that benefit those facing similar adversity.
John Bernard Dutton is an Army veteran, a 20 year volunteer for the 12 Service Battalion Museum as Curator of Artifacts, and the Ladner Remembrance Day Parade Marshall for the last 4 years. He spends over 300 hours a year volunteering.
Dr. Kenneth Fung has served many organizations including: Vancouver Multicultural Society, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., Chinese Canadian Cultural Society of Greater Vancouver, World Assembly of Mental Health, and the Chinese Canadian Medical Society of BC.
Thomas Sewell Byng Giraud has volunteered with the BC Children's Hospital, sits on many natural resource - related boards and is a long standing contributor to public policy. He also engages in local sport both as an athlete and coordinator.
Hermann Glockl is the Founder of Food on the Corner, a non-profit society. This society has provided soup and food outreach to the homeless for many years. With over 130 volunteers, the society feeds up to 500 people weekly in Vancouver.
Joan High joined the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society in 1971. She has volunteered in the community for over 40 years serving as Auxiliary President, Volunteer Service Coordinator & Lower Mainland Representative to the Provincial Healthcare Council.
Gordon Huff, Delta farmer and a World War II Royal Canadian Navy Veteran, has been a dedicated volunteer fireman and training officer for 35 years. He is still active as a lifetime member of the Delta Agricultural Society.
Lois Jackson, Delta's Mayor since 1999, was the first woman elected to Council in 1973. She was the Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board for several years and is the Chair of the Delta Police Board. Her priorities have been farmland, protection of Burns Bog, and a No New Debt policy.
Lloyd Jones is a World War II Veteran who spends his waking hours volunteering with the Delta Police, Shriners, Royal Canadian Legion, and the Phoenix Food & Drug group.
Nancy J. Macey has worked vigorously for over two decades to fulfill her vision and passion for the establishment of a centre to assist with end of life issues. The Delta Hospice Society facilities in Ladner are the realization of her vision.
Dr. Don McKenzie, sports medicine physician, formed his innovative theory in 1996 that repetitive upper body exercise would be beneficial for anyone who had been treated for breast cancer. "Abreast in A Boat" was created to test this successful and now proven theory.

He has also been actively involved with the Delta Chamber of Commerce & the Rotary Club of Ladner. He is a Past Director & Chair of the Fraser River Port Authority.
George Conrad Reifel has contributed to wetland conservation in North America through his volunteer leadership of Ducks Unlimited Canada, Nature Trust of BC, Pacific Salmon Foundation, Tyee Club of BC, and the British Columbia Waterfowl Society.
Bruce Rozenhart is a community business leader with over 25 years experience in public affairs. Serving on many important committees in Richmond, he has earned the respect of community and business leaders alike.
Christopher Scurr has volunteered on many community committees and with business groups. As a crewman serving on the Roberts Bank Lifeboat, he has spent thousands of volunteer hours helping to save lives and property at sea.
Dave Semple has volunteered in Richmond for over three decades. His knowledge of the Gulf of Georgia National Historic Site helped it become a beacon of the west coast fishing industry and a fabulous jewel for Steveston.
Jim Stimson, a social worker, counselor, probation officer, volunteer and author has spent decades helping individuals, families, employers and unions deal with addiction, emotional and psychological difficulties. Jim was the driving force behind the Little House Society's rebuilt home.
Joan Eleanor Vanstone founded Parent Finders of Canada in 1974 to improve the rights of adult adoptees, and lobbied Provincial Governments to change adoption disclosure legislation. Her efforts have assisted in over 3,000 re-unions of adult adoptees.
Wilbur A. Walrond has contributed more than 50 years of continuous service to our community especially in assisting new immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago to settle in Canada.
John Young has been a long time volunteer coordinator for many sporting events such as the Terry Fox Foundation, Sport Canada, Speed Skating at the Richmond Oval, the Olympics, CPGA, Ship to Shore, and the Grey Cup.
"The award of the Queen's Jubilee Medal honours Her Majesty for her 60 years of duty and service to Canada as our Queen by recognizing the selfless contributions of these community leaders in Delta-Richmond East who each represent the highest ideals of community service," said Findlay.
