Enhancements for Grauer Park are getting back on track.

Delta council recently gave the go-ahead for a new memorandum of understanding between the city, the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen and the Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club for what could be $255,000 worth of improvements.

Those projects include a new bike pump track at the northeast corner of the park, a playground next to the South Delta Recreation Centre and lighting for the skateboard park.

In 2015, council approved another memorandum with the Lions Club for all three projects whereby the club would fundraise for the entire amount, which was estimated at $210,000 at the time.

A recent report to council notes the Lions have finished several other community initiatives involving fundraising and volunteerism and are now turning their attention to Grauer Park, acknowledging the projects will involve significant time and effort to complete. The costs since the original memorandum have also increased.

Last year, Rotary entered the picture, approaching the city and the Lions to determine if there was interest for Rotary involvement.

Those discussions resulted in a new deal in which Delta has agreed to contribute $62,500 of municipal funding for the skateboard lighting, while the two clubs contribute a combined equal amount for the $125,000 project.

After that, they would collectively raise 50 per cent toward the cost of the other two projects.

The report to council notes the agreement also addresses a scenario where the project costs exceed the identified budget. In each case, should that arise, the Lions and Rotary will be expected to fund half the additional project costs, or work collectively with Delta to reduce the scope to meet budget.
