A Delta police constable in 1970 shows a new parking bylaw enforcer how to mark vehicles in downtown Ladner. The bylaw officer was hired by the police commission in response to many complaints at the time about over-time parking in Ladner. Her duty was to mark tires, hand out tickets and generally keep the business area spaces clear for shoppers.

Complaints about parking certainly haven’t changed much since those days about over-time parkers in the village, especially employees, taking up spaces all day. A number of measures including time restrictions posted on signs have been tried. The municipality is currently looking at the parking situation in Ladner once again. The parking concerns seem likely to grow as Delta looks at redevelopment of the downtown core that could bring more residents into the area, but pay parking has been a non-starter when it comes to options. A few years ago the city passed a bylaw prohibiting pay parking. Do you think it might be time to reconsider it for certain areas? Give us your feedback on our Facebook page
