Letters: Village business asks for lease extension

To remove our business and the six other businesses when it could be months or years before this project is scheduled to start is very short sighted.

To Delta mayor, council and city staff

The following letter was sent to the City of Delta with a copy to the Optimist, which has been edited for length.

We were very disappointed to receive a letter from Delta council informing us that we have just six months to vacate our retail space or be evicted. We have occupied this space for the last 15 years and this has been a great surprise for us. Our retail furniture store has been in Ladner Village for over 30 years, which makes us one of the longest running retail stores in Ladner and particularly the Village.

Over many years we have helped bring local tourism to Ladner by starting the Ladner Village Market, and we have kept locals shopping locally, by providing necessary retail products and services.

We were further shocked to discover that despite being forced to leave our established location within six months, the city does not yet have a feasibility study, a developer, public feedback, nor a timeline for the actual construction of any proposed developments.

To remove our business and the six other businesses when it could be months or years before this project is scheduled to start is very short sighted. Council should be encouraging the existing businesses to stay and new businesses to come, helping to continue to make Delta an actual community that people want to live in.

We would ask that council wait until the Dunbar Lumber location is closer to being

ready for occupation, as there would be additional retail space possibilities for us and the other businesses that are being displaced.
