Delta Deas Rowing Club’s Masters athletes came away with 14 ribbons at a spring race regatta in Lake Stevens.

Delta Deas Junior Rowers attended the prestigious 44th annual Brentwood Regatta last weekend.

This regatta is the largest sporting event hosted by a single high school in North America. It featured 1,647 high school-age rowers from 37 schools and clubs, which included rowers from B.C., Washington and Oregon.

Attending this regatta were 17 rowers from Delta Deas Rowing Club, along with coaches Garret Bouhuyzen-Wenger and Kendra Pederson.

They represented the club well by displaying excellent sportsmanship, achieving personal best times, winning heats and placing in finals. The races were exhilarating with many close finishes. Delta took home medals in both the Junior A 1x (silver for Robert Hodgins) and the Junior B 4+ (gold for Natalie Whitehead, Trevor MacDougall, Ben Morton, Daniel Kruckenberg, and Alex Larocque).

Earlier, the club's juniors and masters got the season off to a fine start at sprint race regatta in Lake Stevens, WA.

The juniors took a number of first and second place finishes, as well as a couple of third spots for a total of 13 ribbons. The masters continued with the success, garnering a top three finish in every race, earning 14 ribbons in total.

Conditions were difficult on the notoriously breezy lake. After a calm early morning start, it deteriorated both days with a stiff breeze in the afternoon which made it extremely challenging at the start.

Despite the adverse weather, Delta rowers persevered and had excellent results. It is a fine start to the season.

The juniors are gearing up for their own Scholastic Regatta, slated for May 24-25.

Delta Deas Rowing Club is a community integrated club that has programs for juniors, masters, seniors and adaptive rowers.
