Fresh off leading the South Delta Sun Devils to the provincial girls volleyball championship, Nicole and Megan McNamara were back at work in Puerto Rico last weekend.

The girls were representing Canada at the NORCECA Central Zone Beach Volleyball Qualification Tournament where they came everso-close to earning a spot in next summer's Youth Olympic Games in China.

The McNamaras advanced to Sunday's final at a rainy Seven Seas Beach in Fajardo where they dropped a three set heartbraker to the United

States team - represented by Suzanne Munro and Sarah Poncil. The U.S. took the first set 21-19 and the McNamaras responded with a 21-19 victory in game two, before falling 16-14 in the decisive set.

The twins will get another chance to qualify for the Games at the NORCECA Final Playoff, slated for March, where the second and third place teams of four tournaments will be competing for the two remaining spots.

Canada advanced to the final with a 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) triumph over Mexico.

The tournament capped a hectic and successful 2013 for the 16-year-old McNamaras that included finishing second at the Canada Summer Games in Quebec. Despite a busy beach volleyball schedule the girls took their games indoors to help South Delta repeat as B.C. champions at the AAAA level. Nicole was named tournament MVP and Megan a first team all-star.

The girls also agreed to a scholarship offer from UCLA where they will be part of the school's sand volleyball program in September 2014.
