Two weeks following the sudden resignation of Marilyn Marquis-Forster, School District 57’s (SD57) Board of Education has found her interim replacement.

Rod Allen, who retired from being the Superintendent and CEO of School District 79 in the Cowichan Valley last month, will act as the Interim Superintendent of SD57 effective immediately for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year.

He held that position on Vancouver Island for four years and has also worked in northern B.C. with 20 years of experience with School District 54 in the Bulkley Valley, including its Superintendent.

“The Board of Education is excited to welcome Rod to the School District 57 team,” said Board Chair Tim Bennett in a statement. “He brings incredible experience and expertise to the district and will work with our senior administration team to wrap up the school year and get ready for September.”

Allen also served as the Assistant Deputy Minister for B.C.’s Ministry of Education for eight years, where he led education transformation initiatives and helped shape the provincial curriculum into a more flexible and personalized education system.

SD57’s search for a permanent replacement for Marquis-Forster continues.
