A delivery driver was uninjured after a Doritos truck burst into flames Monday morning on the Millstream overpass in Langford.

The driver was making his morning delivery around 6:15 a.m. when he smelled smoke coming from the truck. He got out and discovered a fire in the cargo area, said Langford Fire assistant chief Lance Caven. The driver tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher and called 911.

When Langford Fire arrived, the cargo area was fully engulfed in flames.

The cardboard boxes and the chips provided fuel for the fire, Caven said. “Chips themselves actually burn quite well, if you’re ever stuck for a fire starter take some Doritos and toss them in,” he said.

Firefighters were on scene until about 7:30 a.m. Traffic was diverted away from the southbound lanes.

The delivery driver did not need medical attention, Caven said.

The charred wreckage was towed away and will be inspected to see if a cause of the fire can be found.
