Delta firefighters responded to a pair of semi-trucks on fire underneath the Alex Fraser Bridge on Thursday night.

Thick clouds of black smoke could be seen across the Lower Mainland Thursday night as two semi-trucks were on fire under the Alex Fraser Bridge.

Delta Police received multiple calls around 8:20 p.m., and attended the 8200 block of Swenson Way where the fire was occurring.  Police witnessed two semi-trucks engulfed in flames on the property of a storage company.

DPD said no one is believed to be injured as a result of the fire.

“Delta Fire extinguished the fire and surrounding area after several hours work. There was significant property damage,” said Delta Fire Deputy Chief Dave Wood. “Upon arrival at scene, crews found the two vehicles fully involved. Once the fire was extinguished, a search for any extensions was made and fire extension in two more trailers was found and extinguished.

All trailers were subsequently checked and no further extensions were found. Initially, it was thought one of the vehicles had a dog inside but no remains were found.”

Wood said the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
