Rev. Elizabeth Northcott of All Saints Anglican Church in Ladner puts items in a time capsule that will be sealed at a 135th anniversary event on Sunday.

All Saints Anglican Church in Ladner will be celebrating its 135th anniversary Sunday with a special event.

The church will be having a service of Lessons and Carols that will include the sealing of a time capsule.

Among the items to be included in the time capsule will be a photo from 100 years ago that shows the congregation gathered on the church steps, a modern recreation of that photo, a couple of bulletins, a list of couples married this year and a copy of the Optimist, said parish administrator Flower Pearson.

"We just realized things are changing quite rapidly around us and we hope that the time capsule will show that this part of Ladner has kind of stayed the same," she said. "When people come into this church they say, 'Oh, it's just like I remember it. Nothing's changed.' That's such a rare thing."

The time capsule will be opened in 15 years for the church's 150th anniversary.

The candle-lit service will also include readings and carols.

"It's very, very traditional. It's lovely," said Pearson.

Rev. Elizabeth Northcott said the church has been an incredible place of worship and celebration for the last 135 years.

The service of Lessons and Carols is set for 7 p.m.

The church also has a Messy Church Christmas kids pageant at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve along with two services that night at 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. Its Christmas Day service takes place at 10 a.m.
