Southpointe Academy has launched a new scholarship for locals.

The Tsawwassen independent school’s new South Delta Regional Scholarship is for South Delta students entering Grade 11 next year.

The school wants to give back to the community, said senior school principal Gordon Cogan.

“We want to give an opportunity to those families that may or may not be able to afford the tuition fees to come here, to give them the opportunity of having a first class education at one of the top independent schools in British Columbia,” he said.

The scholarship covers tuition fees for grades 11 and 12, the application fee and new family fee.

Meeting the school’s academic standards for admission to Grade 11, having already demonstrated excellence in arts, athletics or community service and demonstrating a willingness to become involved in and contribute to Southpointe’s co- and extra-curricular programs are included among the eligibility criteria.

Applicants will need to submit a resume, a statement of interest and a letter of recommendation/reference letter.
