South Delta Crime Beat: Thief steals identity and then accesses account

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

July 12, 5:04 p.m., 500-block of Tralee Place: A citizen found two purses in the bushes and contacted police. Police located the owner and determined they were the victim of theft from auto. Purses returned to the owner upon identification.

July 13, 5:43 a.m., 6700-block of Meredith Place: Complainant reported their residence was broken into sometime overnight while they were sleeping. Items stolen include a Vario flight instrument, a Nikon D7200 camera and lenses, and a Microsoft Surface laptop. Spare set of keys was used to steal a grey 2007 Toyota 4Runner from the driveway. Vehicle added to the police database.

July 16, 2:52 p.m., 5300-block of 1A Avenue: Report received from complainant that sometime overnight their unlocked vehicle was entered and rummaged through. Nothing stolen but three sets of keys were located near the vehicle.

LADNER

July 12, 1:21 p.m., 4800-block of 59A Street: Complainant reported their vehicle parked in their driveway was entered sometime overnight. Several items stolen, including Prada sunglasses and a phone charger.

July 13, 8:44 a.m., 6100-block of Highway 17: Complainant reported a shipping container in the rear parking lot was found unlocked with a smashed door padlock. Five boxes of donated woman's clothing stolen.

July 13, 2:08 p.m., 7200-block of 72nd Street: An employee reported their manager's truck was broken into sometime overnight. The driver's side rear cab window was smashed and the driver's door lock punched, causing an estimated $500 in damage. Nothing stolen from the vehicle.

July 13, 8:41 p.m., 5000-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported a family member was the victim of identity theft. The suspect changed the victim's online banking information and e-transferred funds from their account. Incident still under investigation.

July 14, 9:25 p.m., 7100-block of Vantage Way: A business reported a company truck was broken into sometime overnight. The rear window of the cab was partially smashed and a company gas credit card stolen. An unsuccessful attempt was made to use the stolen card.

July 15, 3:09 a.m., 5100-block of 48th Avenue: An employee contacted police indicating they had two youth in custody who had concealed several items in their backpacks. Police attended and the suspects produced several items, including items stolen from another business. The businesses declined to lay charges and the youth were released to the custody of their mothers.

July 15, 1 a.m., 6500-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Police observed a vehicle leaving the parking lot of the pub and driving for some distance below the posted speed limit. Police stopped the vehicle and two breath samples provided by the driver both read "Fail." An immediate roadside suspension was given to the driver and the vehicle was impounded.
