Investigation continues into the cause of a house fire in Tsawwassen Monday afternoon.

Delta firefighters responded to the fire on Wallace Ave. just after 4:40 p.m. When they arrived they found thick black smoke venting from the home.

“Crews confirmed that the house was empty, but found two males in the backyard using a garden hose and attempting to unlock the rear door,” said fire Chief Dan Copeland. “They were both removed from the yard as the crews carried on operations. The incident commander quickly called a second alarm to ensure exposure houses were protected.”

Copeland said the seat of the fire appeared to be on the main floor of the home with flames moving into the attic.

“The house was quickly engulfed in black smoke and the interior crews moved to an exterior attack to knock down the fire,” he said. “A fire watch was kept throughout the evening to insure nothing sparked back up.”
He said investigators returned to the scene Tuesday morning.

“At this point cause is yet to be determined,” he said.

A total of 22 firefighters and seven pieces of apparatus were on scene.
