Art show at KinVillage

Student exhibit will feature watercolours

A gallery show of watercolour paintings will put the talents of the students taking classes at KinVillage Community Centre in the spotlight, says instructor Irene Jenkinson.

The show will be held next Tuesday and is a great opportunity for the community to see the art produced by the students.

"I began teaching art at KinVillage five years ago and work with watercolours as that is my main interest," says Jenkinson, who taught children and teenagers for much of her professional life.

Working with mostly older adults who "make such wonderful students, it is a pleasure to see them grow and watch the improvement in their work," she says.

"Often, my students have not had a chance to draw or paint in their busy lives but it may have been something they always wanted to do."

Now they have that opportunity to develop their skills. Even if they have no background in drawing, "I encourage them to gradually draw more and give them tips on different aspects of their work. The improvement has been tremendous and each student has developed their own style."

The classes now have a beginners and an intermediate level with Enya Jorge, who has a background in teaching.

"She is particularly good and showed a strong aptitude," says Jenkinson.

This enables students who sign up each year to progress and learn new techniques.

"The students want to keep going" and this provides a way for them to do so.

The gallery show will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25 at KinVillage, 5430-10th Ave., Tsawwassen, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Admission is by donation. The bar will be open and refreshments will be served.
