Producer Andria Spring's latest project is making the rounds on the festival circuit.

The South Delta Secondary grad was in Alberta last week for a screening of Donovan's Echo, a dramatic mystery starring Danny Glover and Bruce Greenwood.

"It was a very warm reception - a great way to start things off," says Spring in an e-mail to the Optimist, noting the film screened to two "sold out and enthusiastic" theatres.

The film has already been shown at the Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival and the Edmonton International Film Festival while the Vancouver International Film Festival is up next on Oct. 9 and 11.

Spring, who now lives in Vancouver, says Donovan's Echo is the first feature in which she's been a full pro-ducer.

"I feel very close to this project, and am proud to now be seeing it on the big screen."

The owner of independent development company Maniacal Toon Media says she loves producing.

"As a producer, I get to see something that was once nothing more than an idea, become something real that can be enjoyed by an infinite amount of people," Spring explains.

"It starts by finding and developing a script with a team of writers, refining it until it can attract the attention of financiers and cast, putting together the production team, overseeing the editing and post-production, and finally delivering the film to buyers around the world."

Spring says she always knew she wanted to be a filmmaker and even while at SDSS she would skulk the halls with a video camera.

"I'd jump at the opportunity to make school projects into video projects, whether they be in art class or his-tory class."

She was a part of the film production program at UBC and, while she initially wanted to direct, found that her skill set lends itself more naturally to producing.

"I like to make things happen - form a team, see it through to the end."

She started her career at Anagram Pictures. There she co-produced the horror/thriller The Thaw starring Val Kilmer and Martha MacIsaac, and was the associate producer and animation designer on the Gemini Award-winning CTV movie, Elijah. Spring also produced the Victorian era sci-fi short The Anachronism, which was awarded six Leo Awards, including best short drama.

Donovan's Echo is due in theatres next year.
