Wellbrook Winery's Summerfest is set for next Saturday.

The seventh annual event will include a classic car and motorcycle show, a blueberry dessert bake-off, a pie eating contest and a barbecue.

"I think it's a great day. It's a great setting," says winery owner Terry Bremner.

Attendance more than doubled to 3,800 at last year's event, he says. He's expecting somewhere from 3,500 to 5,000 people to show up this time depending on the weather.

The pie eating contest, a popular part of the event, has three categories (kids, teens and adults) for hungry competitors.

Kids activities will include pony rides, sumo suits and a bouncy castle.

The TOOBs, a local service club, will be serving hotdogs and burgers while Bremner says he's lined up Henry's Chicken BBQ (of PNE fame) to be at the event this year.

Proceeds from the barbecue will go to the Delta Hospital Auxiliary.

The Centaurs, a rock 'n' roll band that was first formed in the 1960s and has recently got back together with a pair of original members, are scheduled to perform.

Miss Canada Tara Teng is scheduled to appear as a special guest.

Summerfest is set for Saturday, July 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wellbrook Winery is located at 4626-88th St. Visit www.wellbrookwinery.com for more details.

• The Delta Arts Council's 14th annual Gallery in the Garden is set for Sunday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wellbrook Winery.

Art on display will include clay, stone, wood, acrylic, glass, metal, silk, photography, oil, watercolour, fabric, pen and ink and more. Entrance is by donation with a suggested minimum of $5.
