B.C. announces 'blitz' of walk-in flu shots. Here's where to get one

B.C. health officials are encouraging walk-in flu shots.
The immunization blitz runs from Dec. 9-11, but each health authority maintains ongoing clinics.

Amid a surge of flu cases, including six deaths among children in November, the province’s health authorities have announced a “blitz” of walk-in clinics for free flu shots this weekend, starting Friday.

Officials note there is no need to call ahead or make an appointment; simply show up with your BC Services Card. If an appointment is preferred, one can be made through the Get Vaccinated system. They also say a COVID-19 vaccine can “likely” be provided at the same time.

Each health authority has posted clinic information online. If you miss the blitz (Dec. 9-11), the websites maintain ongoing clinics.

If you live in Vancouver, Richmond, the North Shore or on the Sunshine Coast, visit Vancouver Coastal Health's website and choose your community.

If you live in Delta, Burnaby, New Westminster or anywhere east of the locations in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, visit Fraser Health's website.

If you live on Vancouver Island, there are numerous walk-in clinics posted online for children under age 12. Vancouver Island Health Authority says anyone over age five can go to a pharmacy for the flu vaccine.

If you live in Kelowna, Kamloops, Vernon, Penticton or anywhere else in the Okanagan, Thompson, Shuswap and Kootenay Boundary regions, Interior Health has child and all-ages walk-in clinics posted online for several communities.

It also states: “We encourage ages 12 and older to book appointments unless they are coming as part of a family, but will accommodate walk-ins if possible.”

If you live in a northern community, such as Prince George, Terrace, Prince Rupert, Fort St. John or several areas in between, walk-in clinics are posted online by Northern Health.
