Dog put down after Sunday attack in Saanich park

The owner of the pit bull that badly injured a greyhound in a weekend attack in Saanich has had his dog put down.

The step was taken after consulting with Capital Regional District bylaw staff.

The injured dog, Misha, had throat and chest injuries and is recovering after emergency surgery Sunday night. He was one of three leashed greyhounds being walked in Reynolds Park about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when the unleashed pit bull attacked.

Misha’s owner, Tatiana Gregoryanz, said several people came forward to help pull the pit bull away.

A GoFundMe page to help with veterinary costs has raised had raised about $7,600 of its $8,000 goal by Thursday night.
