Feud between Vancouver bottlepickers led to weapons charge

While the assault charged was stayed, the man was told to stay away from the still-fearful alleged victim.

The animosity between two men who collect empty returnables from Vancouver bins turned ugly in November 2021 when one man threatened another.

The men were around a warehouse complex when Nguyen picked up an object and tried to leave, the court heard. In the ensuing events, the second man wound up with a gash. 

Nguyen was told to stay away from the other man, who the court heard is still afraid of him, and not to possess weapons. He was also given a $200 recognizance without deposit or surety.

A stay of proceedings was entered on the weapon charge, according to online court records.

Initially, Nguyen had pleaded not guilty to the charge was the case had been set for trial. It had been estimated the trial would have taken a day with five witnesses to have been called.
