VICTORIA — British Columbia reported 274 new cases of COVID-19 a day ahead of the provincial government's expected announcement of the loosening of some COVID-19 public health restrictions.

The government said Wednesday that 405 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 and 14 have died in the past 24 hours.

Health Minister Adrian Dix would not comment on what COVID-19 restrictions are to be lifted.

But Dix says the government would follow guidance from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and make decisions based on the evidence.

Dix gave the response when asked about his government's approach to lifting COVID-19 public health rules compared to Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

All three of those provinces have lifted or have announced specific plans to lift pandemic restrictions.

Dix says he's encouraged by the number of B.C. residents who have been fully vaccinated and expects vaccine passports to continue in some settings, such as in long-term care homes.
