Man caught on surveillance video breaking into legion on Remembrance Day

The break-in occurred at about 9 a.m., with video surveillance showing a suspect arriving in a small truck carrying a tool to cut the locks off storage sheds on the legion property

RCMP are asking the public to be on the lookout for a man in a distinctive-looking pickup truck who broke into the Royal Canadian Legion on Shawnigan Lake Road on Remembrance Day.

The break-in occurred at about 9 a.m., with video surveillance showing a suspect arriving in a small truck carrying a tool to cut the locks off storage sheds on the legion property. No details were provided on what was taken.

Police said the suspect also damaged the surveillance cameras, but not before video and photos were obtained.

“This is a pretty distinctive pickup, and it’s very likely that this vehicle and suspect will be recognized by a member of the public,” Sgt. Chris Manseau said.

The suspect vehicle is described as a mid-1990s black Nissan pickup with a white stripe down the passenger side that does not extend to the box.

If you recognize the suspect or the vehicle or have information on the break and enter, contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP detachment at 250-743-5514.
