Capt. Jackson Wong has assumed command of the Delta-based 1867 Seaforth Highlanders of Canada RCACC in a change of command ceremony with the outgoing commanding officer, Capt. James Lapshinoff.

Wong began his cadet career with the 2947 RCACC “12 Service Battalion” in Richmond. Over the course of five years Wong achieved National Star Certification Examination, held the position of company sergeant major and was promoted to cadet master warrant officer.

As an adult, Wong enrolled in the Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC) in 2001 and joined 2947 RCACC, his old cadet corps. During his time in the CIC, Wong has served in several cadet corps and in various positions. During the summer he has served at Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Centre and Connaught Training Centre where he held the positions of platoon commander, training officer and program delivery officer.

In civilian life, he has worked in his family’s business since he was a teenager, and is currently the president of CDJ Vancouver Holdings Ltd.

This is Wong’s first time taking command of a cadet corps and he looks forward to the challenges and rewards that lie ahead during his tenure over the next three years.

The Royal Canadian Sea, Army and Air Cadets are national programs for youth ages 12 to 18, which aim to develop in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership, promote physical fitness and stimulate the interest of youth in sea, land and air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces. The programs are community based and require local adult leaders in order to be successful.

CIC officers are dedicated members of the community who work with youth in their spare time by providing them with a dynamic and structured program.
