Many residents volunteer their time to benefit the community through one of the service clubs in South Delta.
There are several clubs out there ready and more than willing to support those in need, raising funds and rolling up their sleeves to make the community an even better place.
Larry Rossiter has been president of the Kiwanis Club of Tsawwassen-Ladner for the past three years and involved for the last decade.
Kiwanis is an international organization with clubs in communities around the world. The organization is "dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time."
In South Delta, the Kiwanis club raises funds to support a plethora of local groups, including annual student bursaries at both high schools, sports teams, the air cadet squadron, which was started by the club, and KinVillage.
Rossiter said the group aims to support "anything for kids or seniors." And all the money raised by the small group of volunteers stays in Delta.
A dwindling and aging membership puts a strain on the remaining members, Rossiter said.
"We would love to get some younger members."
The Tsawwassen Order of Old Bastards (TOOBs) has been quietly helping many local groups and individuals since 1984.
Most of the club's fundraising is done through food services at local events, such as Ladner Bandfest, Tsawwassen Sun Festival and the outdoor movie nights. However, the group also receives other donations and funding through community gaming grants.
The group's longest standing cause is the annual community Christmas Hamper Drive, which continues to grow year after year.
"Thank you volunteers and all service clubs," said Greg Watts, arch bastard of the TOOBs.
