Planning ahead before a health crisis is something all of us should do, yet less than 50 per cent of Canadians have had conversations with their family and friends and even less have spoken with their doctor. Many people don’t know where to begin while others are unaware of the importance.

On Saturday, March 10, the Parish Health team at Ladner United Church, in partnership with Deltassist and the Delta Seniors’ Planning Team, will be hosting a day-long workshop called Planning for the Future. The workshop will cover important information about medical, legal and financial decision making and advance care planning.

Keynote speaker in the morning will be Cari Hoffmann, project coordinator for advance care planning for Fraser Health.

During the lunch hour there will be an opportunity for participants to view displays by community groups such as Delta Hospice, Deltassist, Delta Seniors Planning Team, Delta Police Department, Delta’s seniors’ centres and UVic Centre on Aging.

In the afternoon, local lawyer Lisa Eastwood will be talking about legal and financial decision making, covering topics such as wills, probate and power of attorney. This will be followed by a panel discussion with opportunity to ask questions from the experts, including financial advisor Vicki Chatterly.

Advance registration for the free workshop is required. To register, call the church office at 604-946-6254.

The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ladner United Church, 4960–48th Ave. A light lunch will be provided.
