Runners still have time to take part in Jog for the Bog 2020 Virtual Edition.

The annual fundraising run, which typically takes place on International Bog Day, has been modified this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jog for the Bog 2020 Virtual Edition will see participants complete their runs anytime between July 20 and 26, which is International Bog Day.

The Burns Bog Conservation Society says participants can complete their five-kilometre or 10-kilometre walk or run anytime, anywhere, although it recommends doing so in the Delta Nature Reserve where route signs have been posted.

After they finish, runners and walkers can submit a screenshot of their results (time, distance and route) as well as a costume selfie.

There are over $400 in prizes from sponsors such as New Balance, Save-On-Foods and Boston Pizza.

Jog for the Bog is a way to celebrate and raise awareness of the benefits bogs and peatlands provide, the threats they face and how we can all protect them.

Proceeds from the run go toward the Burns Bog Conservation Society’s education/outreach programs and conservation efforts. Proceeds will fundsummer camps, in-class workshops and community tours (once it’s safe to do them again) as well as restoring 1,000 square metres of Burns Bog over the next two years to native plant species.
