The Killing Floor Blues Band takes its name from a Howlin’ Wolf song and it’s this sound that the band pays homage to, Chicago electric blues of the 50’s and 60’s.

The band will be performing at the Tsawwassen Legion starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. The Legion is located at 22-1835-56th St.

With Ben Abel on guitar and vocals, the band started in December of 2011 and has played many shows both in and out of Vancouver. Experienced musician John Vavrik joined the band as their full-time bass player in August of 2016. Ted Laturnus joined the band as full-time drummer as of December 2017.

“My love for the blues came from listening to bands like Cream and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac,” says Abel. “When you hear an artist like Eric Clapton say he was influenced by people like Otis Rush and Muddy Waters, you naturally seek those sources out. That led to other sources like Albert King, Freddie King and more obscure blues artists like Blind Lemon Jefferson. Songs like Spoonful and Killing Floor then are part of our set as are originals I've written like Funk n Low Down and Outside My Window.”

The Eastside Ramblers will also be playing. They’re a five-piece band from Vancouver dedicated to bringing maximum blues flavour to the masses.

Admission is $10 or by donation.
