It was Christmas in July this week in Ladner Village.

Parts of the Village around the Delta police Community Police Station was transformed into a ‘winter wonderland’ as Hallmark Pictures filmed scenes for its new movie A Christmas Duet.

The movie stars Chaley Rose (Code Black, Nashville) and Rome Flynn (The Haves and Have Nots, How to Get Away With Murder) and is one of more than 30 new Christmas movies that will be headed to TV later this year – all centred around a musical theme.

According to Hallmark Pictures the plot involves: well-loved music duo Averie and Jesse, famous for their duet Wouldn’t be Christmas, haven't played together since they went their separate ways years ago. Averie gave up music and opened a beautiful lodge, while Jesse still tours, struggling to find the same kind of success they had as a duo. When fate brings them together over the holidays at Averie's lodge just in time for the annual Yuletide Festival, can the magic of Christmas help reunite them once again?

Hallmark Pictures location manager David Fullerton told the Optimist in an email that they chose Ladner and Ladner Village because they were looking for a town that could play as a New England small town, with some Hallmark charm and character.
