This year’s “lite” tournament has been adapted to ensure new health protocols are followed.

“We have made a few changes to the tournament this year, such as staggered tee times and a change from a sit-down dinner to a lite meal,” says Bill Thornton, CEO of Ladner-based BC & Alberta Guide Dogs, “but it will still be our usual day of fun and laughs on the course and the same great cause.”

BC & Alberta Guide Dogs patrons Leah and Howie Meeker, C.M. usually host the event in person, but this year they will cheer players on from the safety of their home.

“We will dearly miss seeing all the golfers, but we are so glad that this event is able to go ahead,” said Meeker, C.M. “Participation ensures certified Guide and Service Dogs for those in need, and this year it’s so important that we have people’s support.”

The tournament raises funds to help BC & Alberta Guide Dogs provide Guide Dogs for people who are blind/visually-impaired, Autism Service Dogs for children with profound autism and their families, and PTSD Service Dogs for Veterans and First Responders living with Operational Stress Injuries. These certified Guide and Service Dogs are provided at no cost to recipients, along with training and aftercare support. To fund these programs, the organization relies on donations and proceeds from its fundraising events, which have been severely impacted because of the pandemic.

The $200 golfer registration includes golf, golf cart, complimentary balls on the driving range, and a lite meal. Details about what to expect, as well as registration for Golf for Guide Dogs, are available through the website at www.bcandalbertaguidedogs.com/golf-for-guide-dogs-2020/.
