The Delta Hospice Society was presented recently with the proceeds of a unique fundraiser taken on by a hardworking group of Southpointe Academy students.

The students designed and created handmade bookmarks to sell by donation with proceeds going to the Delta Hospice Society.

On a recent visit to Delta Hospice's Centre for Supportive Care in Ladner, Angela Mason, Stephanie Lin, Amrick Gill and Srishity Dhesi proudly presented Delta Hospice's Tama Recker with a cheque for $1,000 from the sale of these hand painted bookmarks.

The students chose the theme of the bookmarks to be the Butterfly Effect, inspired by the logo used by the Delta Hospice Society and many other hospice societies around the world.

The butterfly symbolizes the transition between life and death. The caterpillar forms its cocoon and prepares to leave life as it knows it, to become a lovely butterfly.

"These students demonstrated how a small group can make a big impact on people's lives," said Delta Hospice executive director Nancy Macey. "They should be so proud of themselves, we truly are."
