City hosting virtual Delta Triathlon in May

The Delta Triathlon is back in a virtual way. Participants will have 16-days (May 1-16) to complete the three components that must include a pre-registered swim at the Ladner outdoor pool in an allotted 30-minute time slot offered on six of the days.

The Delta Triathlon is back in a virtual way.

Participants will have 16-days (May 1-16) to complete the three components that must include a pre-registered swim at the Ladner outdoor pool in an allotted 30-minute time slot offered on six of the days.

The bike and run legs must be completed on the same day with the City of Delta providing suggested routes. Organizers have also come up with a variety of distances based on age and experience. They include:

Sprint Triathlon: 600m swim, 20 km bike ride, 5 km run.

Tri-It Triathlon: 300m swim, 10 km bike ride, 2.5 km run.

Youth Triathlon (12-15 years-old): 300m swim, 6 km bike ride, 2 km run.

Pre-Teen Triathlon (8 -11 years-old): 100m swim, 3 km bike ride, 1 km run.

Kids Triathlon (6-7 years-old): 25m swim, 1.5 km bike ride, 500m run.

Mini-Kids Triathlon (3-5 years-old): 20m swim, 500m bike ride, 100m run.

Registration is $25 and is limited to 300 participants in total. Registration opens to Delta residents starting today (March 17). Non-Delta residents can register starting March 31.

Participants must use their own timing devices.

The Delta Triathlon was slated to return in 2020 after a five-year hiatus when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and the event was subsequently cancelled.
