Delta Firefighter Reid Taylor will be taking his annual run for B.C. Children's Hospital a much further distance on Feb. 19.

Reid Taylor is stepping up his fundraising initiative for B.C. Children’s Hospital.

For the past four years the Delta firefighter has raised $37,000 by doing a 40-yard dash in his full firefighting gear, which he did in conjunction with Rich Eisen of the NFL Network who has done a 40-yard dash on air during the annual NFL Scouting Combine.

Now he’s prepared to take it a step further, or make that thousands of steps further, after having his own personal experience at B.C. Children’s in the past year.

Taylor will be running a full-marathon (42-km) wearing the 50-pounds of firefighter gear.

“My wife and I have a young family, a five-year-old boy, a three-year-old boy and our third baby, a girl arrived this past April. When she was born, she had to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for two weeks for medical issues and was transferred to B.C. Children’s Hospital for final tests before she was discharged. I wanted to put a bigger effort into this campaign,” explained Taylor.

Along with running the marathon, Taylor will be holding a silent auction Feb. 23 to 26 and is hoping businesses will contribute to the cause.

“It would be great if you could donate something towards our silent auction to help support our children’s hospital,” he continued. “One hundred percent of the money raised during this campaign goes directly to our hospital.

“With your generosity of either an item for our silent auction or a monetary donation, I can thank you on social media and if you are interested I will wear either a sticker or badge of your business on either my helmet or gear while I run the marathon.”
