Let’s do throwback and go back to July 25, 1922, when big celebrity paid a visit to Ladner.

Governor General Lord Byng and his wife were greeted by a big crowd.

Here he is on Delta Street.

Lord and Lady Byng travelled more than any of their predecessors, making extended trips to Western Canada and the north, taking the opportunity to meet with many Canadians.

He was already well known before being appointed governor general.

In the First World War, he took command of the Canadian Army Corps on the western front and gained glory with the Canadian victory at Vimy Ridge in April 1917.

He and his wife were also big hockey enthusiasts. Lady Byng presented a trophy to the National Hockey League in 1925, which, to this day, recognizes sportsmanship.
