Close to 1,000 people flooded the South Delta Baptist Church on April 5 to learn from world-renowned dementia expert Teepa Snow. And thanks to the generosity of attendees, the event raised over $4,000 for local charities.
Sponsored by The Waterford and the B.C. Activity Coordinators Association, Snow brought her unique medical expertise and animated presentation style to Tsawwassen for two special workshops focused on understanding how the brain functions for someone living with dementia, and teaching attendees new skills to provide the best care possible to people with the disease.
Admission to the workshops was by donation, with all proceeds split between two charities - the Delta Hospice Society and Deltassist.
"The event was a resounding success. The feedback I've received has been overwhelmingly positive," said Craig Rumsby, general manager at The Waterford.
"It makes me proud that the event raised so much money for local non-profits that rely on community support.
"Bria Communities is already talking about bringing more educational events like this one to our various communities in the future."
