The Delta Hospital Foundation is excited to receive a $4,000 donation from the Tsawwassen Legion to help to purchase Holter monitors.
The specialized equipment will allow Delta residents to be diagnosed for heart disease in their own community.
Heart conditions are serious and require prompt diagnosis. The money donated by the Tsawwassen Legion to purchase Holter monitors will diagnose more people with heart rhythm disturbances, specifically the cause of palpitations or dizziness.
The Holter monitor is a small recording device that's connected to a patient's chest by small metal disks.
Worn over a 24-hour period, the information gathered is downloaded to a computer and analyzed to find out what is causing the arrhythmia.
Legion members Bob Wilkinson and Terry Nylander presented Delta Hospital Foundation executive director Teresa Cooper with the cheque.
"Throughout their support of our hospital, the Legion's generosity has allowed for the newest equipment to provide the best health care in Delta," said Cooper. "This donation for the monitors will help the residents of Delta stay in our community for heart related diagnosis procedures close to their families."
The foundation raises funds to provide access to the best medical services close to home. Since 1988, it has raised over $23 million.
