A recent donation will help keep the music flowing at Delta Hospice.

Music Heals, a charity that raises money and awareness for music therapy, recently donated $10,000 to the Delta Hospice Society for its music therapy program.

Dr. Heather Mohan, a counsellor and music therapist at Delta Hospice and the Supportive Care Centre, said this is the second year the society has received a donation from Music Heals.

Mohan said she was initially hired to work as a bereavement counsellor but has also brought music therapy into her practice and expanded that into the hospice.

"For us, it's important to fund existing programs," said Chris Brandt, executive director at Music Heals. "Our mandate is to expand access to music therapy."

Mohan said the funding will allow the society to continue to offer music therapy to those who are grieving, as well as those who are staying at the hospice and their families. "Music Heals has been such a fantastic organization," she said. "To have a foundation like Music Heals, it's a huge gift for the music therapy community."
