Celebrate the arrival of summer at the Earthwise Society's Summer Solstice event and AGM on Thursday, June 22.

The summer solstice, with its promise of an upcoming bounteous harvest, has been marked by celebrations of the natural world in many cultures. It is also a time when longer days lift spirits, so it's the perfect time to come to the Earthwise Garden for a celebration.

Learn about the society's new programs, from Don't Mow, Grow to the Agassiz Farm, at the AGM at 7 p.m., then join fellow community members, neighbours and volunteers to enjoy a classy farm-style social featuring assorted local cheeses, breads and beverages in the Earthwise Five Senses Café.

Just before sunset you will be guided through the garden on a Twilight Tour with therapeutic horticulturalist Julia Thiessen to catch flowers that save their scent for the night, to see the active barn owl babies and other nighttime garden residents, and to enjoy the unique beauty of the garden at an hour many people miss.

The Summer Solstice event is a fundraiser for Earthwise. Tickets are $15 and the money raised will support Earthwise's charitable programs, including environmental education for kids, Delta Food Coalition programs for food security and Gardening for Health.

To purchase tickets or RSVP to the Earthwise AGM, call 604-946-9828 or email [email protected].

The Earthwise Garden is a public educational garden that is open to visitors daily. The garden and the Earthwise Farm Store are located in Boundary Bay at 6400-3rd Ave.
