Earthwise set to host Eat, Drink & Be Local at Rose & Crown

With inclement weather and a slow start to the growing season all across the country, it is more important than ever to get involved in the local food movement and support local growers.

With inclement weather and a slow start to the growing season all across the country, it is more important than ever to get involved in the local food movement and support local growers.

Join staff and volunteers of Earthwise Society at the Rose & Crown Pub on Wednesday, May 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. for Eat, Drink & Be Local to learn why local and organic farming is so important for our jobs, our environment and the future of our region.

In Delta, we are surrounded by fertile farmland. Despite this, B.C. imports 95 per cent of the fruit and nuts and 75 per cent of the vegetables that we consume. Produce from other provinces and countries translates into extensive food miles that decrease the nutritional value of our food and consume fossil fuels.

Earthwise Society grows organic food in Delta and Agassiz, and will be sharing the reasons to choose organic and local at the Rose & Crown Pub over lively discussion, drinks and free appies.

Society representatives will also have information for people interested in volunteering at Earthwise or interested in subscribing to a weekly or bi-weekly Community Supported Agriculture box.

Contact [email protected] or call 604-946-9828 for more information about Eat, Drink & Be Local. The Rose & Crown Pub is located at 12th Avenue and 56th Street in Tsawwassen.

For those who can't make the event, Earthwise Society is open at 6400-3rd Ave. in Boundary Bay Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
