The Delta Youth Support Line Society is helping Delta high schools celebrate Youth Week next month.

The charitable organization is funding, along with the help of a recent $3,500 donation from the Delta Community Foundation, various student-led projects during Youth Week, set for the first week of May.

It's a way for students "to build leadership skills and teambuilding skills by putting on these events," said DYSL executive director Debbie Lindsey.

She noted the week is an international celebration of youth and that DYSL is supporting all the public high schools in Delta along with Southpointe Academy in Tsawwassen.

Bridgitte Taylor, a Delta Secondary grad who's now a member of DYSL's board, was part of a group of students that helped organize events that put a focus on mental health awareness during a past Youth Week.

"It was very successful and I know the schools really appreciate it," Taylor said.

Last year students at DSS had a grand opening for the school's revitalized Centennial Courtyard during Youth Week.
