KinVillage hosts book sale

It's a busy time at KinVillage with about 20 volunteers working hard to prepare for the seventh annual book sale, says Win Osborne, co-coordinator of the event.

"We hope to have as many, if not more, books as last year, which was around 6,000," Osborne said.

The book sale, which takes place Jan. 26 to 28 at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen, will also include board games, CDs and DVDs.

"We accept books and games in good condition and we are especially careful to ensure the children's books are in good condition," said Osborne. "The variety of books is huge.

We have travel books, coffee table books and, of course, the popular suspense and romantic novels, but we plan to keep the prices at the same affordable level," she said.

Anne Rietchel is cocoordinator with Osborne and she said the best part of preparing for the sale is seeing the volunteers' smiling faces.

"We work together to make the event a great success, preparing for the sale and on the days of the sale also," she said.

All funds raised are used to improve the KinVillage Community Centre and also the adjacent care home.

"Last year we raised funds to construct the Parkview Lodge and this year the funds will be used to enhance the entrance to the community centre with a waterfall and small pond. We are an integral part of the community and we always strive to make the centre a welcoming place," said John Lusted, director of recreation.

Book sale hours at KinVillage Community Centre, 5430-10th Ave., are: Thursday, Jan. 26, 2 to 9 p.m.; Friday, Jan. 27, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, Jan. 28, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Donations of books, games, CDs and DVDs can be dropped off at the centre from 9 a.m. to noon until Jan. 20.

All items should be in good condition. Magazines and National Geographic or Readers Digest are not accepted.
