The North Delta Lions Club presented the Delta Hospital Foundation with a cheque for $3,200 earlier this month to purchase a Holter monitor for the busy Cardiac Care Clinic.

A Holter monitor allows a patient's heart activity to be recorded over 24 hours so that a physician can examine and correlate symptoms of dizziness, palpitations and even blackouts that might occur within this period.

The club decided to fund this purchase as many of its members have at some time undergone cardiac testing.

"Unfortunately, heart disease becomes an increasing concern as we age and with Delta having a growing senior population, Delta Hospital's Cardiac Care Clinic is a busy one," says Lisa Hoglund, Delta Hospital Foundation's individual giving manager. "The good news is that heart disease is both preventable and manageable if it is caught early. Having access to the right tools is essential to ensuring physicians can accurately diagnose early signs of ill health and help support patients back to wellness."

The North Delta Lions Club and the Ladner Lions (which merged in 2014), have to date donated close to $25,000 to fund priority needs at Delta Hospital. The club recognizes the importance of the hospital to not only the South Delta community, but increasingly to North Delta and beyond.

"Many of our members have received fantastic care at Delta Hospital, so investing in the hospital is really an investment in a healthier future for our community, our friends and our families," says Bob Buntain, life member of the North Delta Lions Club and co-chairman of this fundraiser. Founded in 1967, the North Delta Lions Club has donated hundreds of thousands to charitable causes and participated in many community projects.
