Local cadet wins bronze in public speaking contest

Sgt. Joren Jackson of the Tsawwassen-based 828 Hurricane Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron won the bronze medal in last weekend's Air Cadet League of Canada provincial public speaking competition.

Sgt. Joren Jackson of the Tsawwassen-based 828 Hurricane Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron won the bronze medal in last weekend's Air Cadet League of Canada provincial public speaking competition.

Cadets from Penticton, Elk Valley, Quesnel, Abbotsford, Delta, Coquitlam, Vancouver and Victoria took part in the competition in Richmond.

Each cadet presented a five-to six-minute prepared speech as well as a two-to three-minute impromptu speech.

The winner will be heading to Prince Edward Island for the national compeition.

The cadet program is the largest youth organization in Canada co-sponsored by the Air Cadet League of Canada and the Department of Defense. It aims to instil leadership and citizenship qualities in young people and to encourage their involvement in the community.
