Mayor hosts teas to recognize Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Delta's mayor recently hosted Diamond Jubilee teas to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne.

Delta's mayor recently hosted Diamond Jubilee teas to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne.

Delta received funding from Heritage Canada's 2012 Diamond Jubilee Community Celebrations program to coordinate teas at both the McKee Seniors' Recreation Centre and the Kennedy Seniors' Recreation Centre.

"Preserving our heritage is extremely important to Delta council, and honouring the Queen's Diamond Jubilee holds a particular significance for me," said Mayor Lois Jackson. "Her commitment to tradition, to her family, to her country and to the world has been inspirational."

The mayor hosted two high teas on Oct. 21 at McKee Seniors' Recreation Centre in Ladner and again on Nov. 3 at Kennedy Seniors' Recreation Centre in North Delta.

Gregory Campbell from Heritage Canada, Delta-Richmond East MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay and Newton-North Delta MP Jinny Sims were in attendance to acknowledge the funding provided by the federal government towards these special celebrations.
