South Delta celebrities are being locked up, but your donations can help set them free.

The Rotary Club of Tsawwassen is hosting its inaugural Get out of Jail fundraiser on Wednesday, May 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rotary Square in the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall.

“There are a lot of local people who are pretty influential in the community and we thought we could leverage them a bit, so basically they will be arrested by Delta police and taken to jail,” said Rotarian Mitch Romano. “The participants will then ask their friends or colleagues to pledge funds to bail them out. The public can also support the cause as well.”

Partial proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Cops for Cancer and the Delta Police Foundation, with the remaining funds helping to support the many community events and initiatives spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen.

“Rotary Club of Tsawwassen hosts many free events throughout the year and completes various projects all over the world, from Tsawwassen to Africa,” Romano said. “The water park, Christmas lights at Diefenbaker, the Easter egg hunt and pancake breakfast, the water fountain just are a few and the only way the community can continue to enjoy these events is through fundraising efforts such as this.

“Community involvement is essential. We will be live streaming the event on Facebook. We hope everyone will participate in what we think will be a really fun event.”
Donations can be made by sending the club a message on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/RotaryClubOfTsawwassen/, visiting Rotary Square during the fundraiser, completing a pledge form from individuals who are going to be in jail, emailing Rotarian Rick Lewall at [email protected]or mailing a cheque payable to RC of Tsawwassen Charitable Society to PO Box 1405, Delta, B.C., V4M 3Y8.

Tax receipts are available for donations of $20 or more.
