Spice Road leads to Delta libraries

Spice not only flavours your food, but it has the powerful ability to unleash your imagination, remind you of a place you've visited or an event from your past.

The Delta Welcoming Communities Program, in partnership with Delta libraries, has put together Spice Road to Delta, an exciting and multifaceted program that will be offered twice next week.

Five speakers from different parts of the world will transport attendees as they explore the significance of spices from their cultural background though stories, food samplings and displays.

There will be a chance to win several door prizes that may include a tea set, a cookbook or a curio that is relevant to the cultures involved. All attendees will receive spice baskets as giveaways.

Spice Road to Delta will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the George Mackie Library in North Delta and on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Ladner Pioneer Library. Both sessions run from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Welcoming Communities Program has recently been launched in several municipalities in B.C., including Delta. Funded by the federal and provincial governments, the program's goal is to promote a welcoming environment to support immigrants' successful integration in their new community.
