Sports Day offers chance to try out new activities

Open houses at three locations in Delta tomorrow

Take part in Sports Day in Canada right here in South Delta tomorrow.

The Corporation of Delta will host an open house at the South Delta Recreation Centre from 1 to 5 p.m. "Sport organizations will be highlighted and the community will be given an opportunity to get connected and informed about the benefits of sports and physical activity," states Delta's website. "Game and activity stations will be set up for children to experience and enjoy."

There will be an Amazing Sport Challenge set up (from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.) where teams of four take on road blocks, pit stops, detours and military style challenges. It costs $5 per team and proceeds go to Kidsport. Call 604-952-3000 to register or visit www.delta.ca.

The South Delta Recreation Centre is located at 1720-56th St. in Tsawwassen.

Delta Gymnastics is also taking part in Sports Day in Canada with an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. where participants can check out circuits, trampolines and equipment at the club. The event is free.

Delta will also hold an open house at the Sungod Recreation Centre in North Delta.

RBC Sports Day in Canada is billed as a national celebration of sport in communities across the country. The initiative is presented by presented by ParticipACTION, in partnership with CBC Television, ICI Radio-Canada Télé and True Sport.

"Sport has the power to make individuals, communities and our nation stronger," said ParticipACTION president and CEO Kelly Murumets.

"It provides a way for adults, children and youth to learn new skills, make new friends, and challenge themselves, all while becoming more physically active.
