A rise in COVID-19 numbers has resulted in Delta's Terry Fox Runs going virtual for the second straight year. Organizers encourage everyone to participate from home.

The 41st edition of the Terry Fox Run will be virtual on Sunday, Sept. 19.

It's the second straight year the event will be held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Delta announced earlier this summer, the annual fundraiser would return to an in-person event and would host runs in both South and North Delta, however, rising COVID-19 case numbers, resulted in the Terry Fox Foundation making a nation-wide decision to move all events back to the virtual format.

Participants are encourage to jog or walk around their neighborhood and register at: terryfox.ca where donations can also be made.

Official 2021 Terry Fox Run T-shirts are currently on sale for $20 at Cravings (112th Street and 84th Avenue) in North Delta or The Run Inn at Tsawwassen Centre Mall. A cash purchase is preferred.

Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope ended abruptly 40 years ago. While Terry was forced to stop his run across Canada, his dream of a world without cancer continues.

“Terry said that it’s got to keep going without me, but he could never have imagined that 40 years later $800 million would be raised for cancer research. Our family is so thankful for how Canadians have embraced Terry and his mission and made such an incredible impact on cancer research with their fundraising,” said his brother Fred Fox in a news release.
