Under Delta’s Adopt-A-Street program, Tsawwassen Rotarians were out on Saturday, May 27, to once again pick up litter from 12th Avenue. From English Bluff Road to 56th Street Rotary volunteers picked up 1,730 pieces of garbage.

“It is amazing what you see when you walk with your head down,” said clean up coordinator Tom Smith. “We were surprised to see the most common item was cigarette butts. As we are heading into the dry season, we hope folks will be mindful of the fire hazard and extinguish and dispose of cigarettes safely.”

Rotary Club of Tsawwassen is one of the founding members of the PickUp3 program so they entered their litter count into the “trash metre” which has now grown to more than 109,000 thousand pieces of trash removed from beaches, parks and community.

“The collective impact is impressive, everyone can join by going to pickup3.org or by scanning one of the program stickers placed on many of the garbage cans in our community,” said Smith.

Rotary Club of Tsawwassen thanks the City of Delta for use of their equipment and the Rose & Crown Pub who took care of disposal of the non-recyclable items.
