Are you searching for a group that will understand the painful grief you are feeling and will offer strategies to help promote healing and relaxation? A drop-in Bereavement Relaxation Group starts next week at Delta Hospice's Centre for Supportive Care in Ladner. It will meet Tuesdays from 1 to 2:45 p.m. beginning Jan. 10.

Often with the pain of the loss of a loved one, people experience anxiety, depression, restlessness, sleeplessness and other distressing symptoms.

Experiencing and learning ways of managing how our mind, body and spirit react to loss can be helpful. Many find the connection with others who are going through a similar experience of loss is meaningful.

The sessions begin with a check-in at which time you may speak or simply listen. A topic related to grief and bereavement is briefly discussed and, once again, you can join in or just listen. After a short break, the music therapist and counsellor begin the guided-imagery and music portion of the session that lasts approximately 40 minutes.

Participants choose to relax in chairs or on foam mats with pillows, light blankets and socks to make it a very comfortable, relaxing experience. The session ends with a check-out that often includes the lighting of a candle and a poem.

Call Jean at 604-948-0660 or email [email protected] to register before your first visit. Wear comfortable clothing. The group will run until April 28.
